R. Duane Daly, OStJ, MSM, CD, BA

Mr. Duane Daly joined the Royal Canadian Air Force under the Regular Officer Training Plan (ROTP) in 1963. After graduating with a BA from St. Patrick's College, Ottawa University, he completed air training as a Navigator at RCAF Station Winnipeg in 1967.

During his military career Mr. Daly served in a wide variety of appointments which included Commanding Officer of 415 Maritime Patrol Squadron, Greenwood, Nova Scotia; Base Commander of Canadian Forces Base Summerside, Prince Edward Island; and Area Commander of Canadian Forces Northern Area with headquarters in Yellowknife, the Northwest Territories. He also served as the Air Force's Director of Air Requirements at National Defence Headquarters and chaired the NATO Information Exchange Group on Maritime Aviation and Anti-Submarine Operations at NATO Headquarters, Belgium.

Retiring from the Canadian Forces in 1995 with the rank of Brigadier-General,  Mr. Daly took up his second career with The Royal Canadian Legion as its Dominion Secretary at its national office in Ottawa.  In that capacity as Chief Operating Officer, he directed the day-to-day operations and programs of the Legion until his retirement in late 2009.

Mr. Daly is a graduate of the Canadian Forces Command and Staff College, the Canadian Forces Aerospace Systems Course and the Royal Air Force College of Air Warfare. He has served on the Provincial Councils of United Way and St. John Ambulance in Prince Edward Island and on the Northwest Territories Council for St. John. He is a member of The Venerable Order of St. John and currently holds the grade of Officer (OStJ). He was also recognized by the Governor General with the award of the Meritorious Service Medal (MSM) for his conception and leadership of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier project which was successfully implemented in 2000.  He served for a number of years on the Advisory Committee of the Canadian War Museum and currently serves as a Director on the Encounters With Canada Support Foundation, the Canadian Battlefields Foundation and the Perley and Rideau Veterans Health Centre Corporation.

Duane is a member of The Historica Foundation’s Advisory Board, and a

Co-Founder of the Encounters With Canada Support Foundation.

Mr. Daly and his wife Sharon live in Ottawa, Ontario.
