The Encounters With Canada Support Foundation is providing a $100 subsidy to help offset the participation fees for students attending the ‘Vimy – Canada Coming of Age’ theme week.

On April 9, 1917 in the midst of the First World War, the Canadian Corps in France moved against German defences on Vimy Ridge. The ridge was widely viewed as impregnable, but Canadian troops conquered it in one of the most spectacular Allied victories of the war. Today, that victory is widely embraced as a turning point in Canadian history, a major step in Canada’s evolution as a nation.

Help us tell the story

The key to a successful future lies in knowing one’s past, and the remarkable stories that our history provides. Many are still not aware of the significance of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, and how its important legacy contributed to Canada’s emergence on the world stage. The Vimy Foundation is working to share this story with all Canadians.
